Alex Musings

The Workshop started in 2018 and over the years we’ve built up a fairly successful studio rental business. We get most of our business through word of mouth and for the number of rentals we have, this tends to keep us 80-100% filled at any given time. This works well enough to be a reason to keep the business running, but it’s not enough to make me excited about being “the owner of The Workshop.” I’ve decided (and in classic Alex style going to process it out loud) to figure out what would make running this business exciting again. Bc let me tell you, figuring out how to get tenants to take care of the space aint doing it for me. Keeping all the spaces rented is just the buy in. And keeping the plants alive is doing nothing for my heart.

All of this makes me wonder how many businesses folded bc the owner just got tired of it? That’s not the direction I want to go, or plan to go. I know there is a way to build on what is already here to bring new life and creative joy to running this business in 2026.
